Turning curiosity into innovation at Platned: Nimesh’s story

For Nimesh Ekanayake, a childhood curiosity about computer games became the foundation of a career in software development.

Growing up in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province, Nimesh received a desktop computer after excelling in a national scholarship examination. While others focused on playing games, he wanted to understand what happened behind the screen.

He promised himself that one day, he would create software of his own.

After studying IT at Kotelawala Defence University and completing postgraduate studies at the Informatics Institute of Technology, Nimesh began his career working with IFS products.
He later joined Platned at an early stage of the company’s growth.

“I joined when Platned was based in a small office in Kottawa,” he says. “Everyone helped each other, and that close working culture has remained even as the company has expanded.”
That collaborative environment gave Nimesh the opportunity to explore new areas, take on greater responsibility and develop his technical capabilities.

Today, he is a Senior Software Engineer leading a team of six. He has also played a role in developing Platned’s own business solutions, including Mahara, an automated IFS Cloud testing solution designed to help organisations work more efficiently.

“You can now ask me almost anything about software development, and I can probably answer it,” he says.

For Nimesh, working at Platned has helped turn academic knowledge into practical expertise. It has also allowed him to contribute to solutions that create real value for customers.
His growth reflects Platned’s approach to its people: giving them the trust, space and opportunity to apply their skills in new ways.

Alongside his work, Nimesh lectures in programming and mobile application development, sharing his experience with the next generation of technology professionals.
