Consulting Manager (Sri Lanka)
About Platned
Platned is a rapidly expanding Enterprise Services company headquartered in the UK with a growing global presence. We are business transformation specialists, helping organisations maximise their investment in the world-class IFS product suite through comprehensive implementation, consultancy, and managed services.
We are seeking an experienced Support Manager to lead and develop our IFS support services operation.
Role Overview
The Consulting Manager will own the people dimension of Platned’s Functional and Technical Consulting practices – bridging HR processes with the realities of a global ERP delivery organization. While Project Managers own project outcomes, this role owns the health, growth, and readiness of the people who deliver those outcomes: their onboarding, development, performance, engagement, and career progression across both consulting tracks (Functional and Technical).
This is a hybrid consulting-practice/people-leadership role, ideal for someone who understands consulting delivery well enough to speak credibly with consultants and architects, but whose primary lens is people management rather than project management.
Key Responsibilities
Practice & People Leadership
- Act as the primary people leader for Functional and Technical Consultants, distinct from their project-level reporting lines to Project Managers.
- Maintain a dotted- or matrixed-line oversight of consultant wellbeing, workload balance, and career trajectory across concurrent engagements.
- Serve as the first point of escalation for consultant-related people issues (workload conflicts, interpersonal issues, career concerns) that sit outside project governance.
Talent Development & Career Pathing
- Design and maintain clear career progression frameworks for Functional and Technical Consulting tracks (e.g., Consultant → Senior Consultant → Principal/Lead).
- Own individual development plans (IDPs) in partnership with practice leads and delivery managers.
- Identify skill gaps across the consulting bench and coordinate training, certifications (e.g., IFS, Oracle, Azure/AWS), and upskilling programs.
- Champion mentoring and buddy programs for new joiners and junior consultants.
Performance Management
- Run the end-to-end performance review cycle for consulting staff (goal setting, monthly check-ins, annual appraisals) in coordination with project-level feedback from Project Managers.
- Consolidate 360-style input from multiple concurrent project assignments into a single, fair performance narrative per consultant.
- Manage underperformance conversations and improvement plans; recognize and reward high performers.
Resourcing & Capacity Planning (People Lens)
- Partner with Resource Management on bench management, utilization targets, and allocation decisions — representing the consultant’s development needs and wellbeing alongside project demand.
- Flag burnout risk, over-allocation, or skill mismatches proactively.
- Support fair rotation across onshore/offshore and client-facing/back-office assignments.
Training and Development:
- Identify training needs for team members and provide opportunities for professional development.
- Ensure the team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to support clients effectively.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, customer obligations, security requirements, and quality standards.
- Support ISO27001 and other compliance initiatives.
- Identify and mitigate operational and delivery risks.
- Participate in internal and external audits as required.
Process Optimization:
- Develop and implement best practices and standard operating procedures to enhance service delivery efficiency.
- Continuously assess and refine processes to improve operational effectiveness.
Strategic Leadership
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction, service quality, and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to organizational planning and growth initiatives.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to scale support operations.
Client Relationship Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring satisfaction.
- Conduct regular check-ins and reviews with clients to discuss performance, address concerns, and identify opportunities for growth.
Collaboration with Delivery Leadership
- Work closely with the Head of Delivery and Project Managers to align people’s strategy with delivery demand.
- Provide people-related input into steering committee or leadership discussions where staffing, attrition, or capability gaps affect delivery commitments.
- Contribute consulting workforce data (utilization, attrition, skill inventory) to broader workforce planning and account growth discussions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting ERP solutions such as IFS, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Infor, or similar enterprise platforms is preferred.
- ITIL certification or strong practical knowledge of IT Service Management frameworks is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in managed services, ERP support, or IT service delivery, with at least 2 years of experience in team leadership or supervisory role.
- Familiarity with ERP/IT consulting delivery models (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) sufficient to engage credibly with consultants and delivery leadership — deep technical expertise not required
- Experience managing globally distributed teams, ideally with onshore/offshore models (UK/US/APAC/Sri Lanka)
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with consulting, sales, resource management, technical, finance, and senior leadership teams.
- Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage consulting delivery within agreed budgets, resource plans, and profitability expectations.
- Ability to analyse operational data, identify trends, manage risks, and drive improvement actions.
- Strong planning, prioritization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills — able to balance the interests of consultants, project managers, and senior leadership
- Strong communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced global environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to drive outcomes independently.
- Culturally sensitive and able to work effectively with international customers and teams.
- Demonstrates Platned values and acts as a positive role model for the organization.
