Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Microsoft SQL Server Site Reliability Engineer to join our Managed Services team in Sri Lanka. This role is suited to professionals with strong SQL Server administration experience who enjoy supporting business-critical enterprise applications, particularly IFS Field Service Management (IFS FSM).

You will help ensure the availability, performance, security, recoverability, and resilience of customer database environments across production and non-production systems. You will work closely with application, infrastructure, data centre, network, firewall, cybersecurity, and integration teams to maintain stable and compliant services.

The position combines proactive database monitoring, incident response, performance management, deployment support, patching, high availability, disaster recovery, archiving, and operational governance within a global Managed Services environment.

This is a shift-based role contributing to 24×7 support coverage for enterprise customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimise Microsoft SQL Server environments across production and non-production systems.
• Perform SQL Server cumulative updates, security patching, version upgrades, and database vulnerability remediation in line with approved change processes.
• Monitor database availability, incidents, performance, blocking, deadlocks, waits, resource consumption, and overall database health.
• Manage and monitor backups, restore readiness, replication, transaction log growth, storage utilisation, database synchronisation, and recovery requirements.
• Support database deployments, including SQL script execution, schema changes, database object creation, release activities, and post-deployment validation.
• Manage data archiving activities, archive databases, retention requirements, and archive restore support.
• Perform performance tuning through query optimisation, execution-plan analysis, indexing, statistics maintenance, and resource optimisation.
• Support High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, replication monitoring, failover support, and recovery testing.
• Monitor SQL Server Agent jobs, maintenance plans, backup jobs, integrity checks, housekeeping activities, and other scheduled database tasks each day.
• Conduct database health assessments, capacity planning, storage forecasting, and proactive risk identification.
• Support data replication to SERA and other related systems and integrations.
• Troubleshoot complex issues with Data Centre, IFS, Network, Firewall, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, and Integration teams.
• Maintain Business Continuity Management documentation, disaster recovery procedures, operational runbooks, risk assessments, and testing evidence.
• Ensure database services comply with cybersecurity, audit, operational, change-management, and customer governance standards.
• Participate in shift-based operations and on-call or out-of-hours activities where required to maintain 24×7 Managed Services coverage.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration experience in enterprise environments.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2019, and/or 2022, SQL Server Management Studio, and SQL Server Agent.
• Hands-on experience with database backup and recovery, replication, transaction log management, database security, patching, and maintenance activities.
• Practical experience in SQL Server performance monitoring, query tuning, execution-plan analysis, index management, blocking, deadlocks, and wait-statistics analysis.
• Experience supporting Always On Availability Groups, clustering, log shipping, or comparable High Availability and Disaster Recovery technologies.
• Strong T-SQL skills and working knowledge of PowerShell scripting for administration and automation.
• Good understanding of Windows Server, storage, networking, authentication, service accounts, and enterprise infrastructure dependencies.
• Experience working within ITIL-aligned incident, problem, change, and service-management processes.
• Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A relevant Microsoft database certification is mandatory, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300), or an equivalent recognised Microsoft SQL Server database administration certification.

Nice To Have

• Experience supporting IFS Field Service Management (IFS FSM), IFS Cloud, IFS Applications, or another enterprise ERP platform.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure, Azure SQL services, or hybrid database environments.
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, SQL monitoring platforms, or other observability tools.
• Exposure to database vulnerability-management, cybersecurity remediation, audit evidence, and compliance activities.
• Additional Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, ITIL, or related infrastructure certifications.
