Role Overview

Platned’s Research and Innovation (R&I) team is building and scaling multiple product initiatives in parallel, moving from technical proof points to production-ready solutions. As a Software Architect, you will be a hands-on technical leader who can rapidly explore, validate, and shape solutions across different technology stacks, while bringing strong engineering judgment, clear architectural direction, and a practical path to production.

In the early stage, this role will be highly hands-on, later evolving based on product maturity and team growth.

You will have design authority and the final say on technology choices, architecture patterns, security standards, and production readiness gates, while actively driving stakeholder alignment and team buy-in. This is an individual contributor role with technical leadership, mentoring, and active involvement in recruitment, without people management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and hands-on implementation across multiple R&I initiatives, from early experimentation to production-grade delivery
• Assess existing prototypes or proof points and define pragmatic productionization plans, including risks, sequencing, and quality gates
• Make fit-for-purpose technology stack decisions and establish architecture patterns aligned to security, scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability
• Define production readiness standards, including observability, deployment strategy, resilience, and operational support expectations
• Establish lightweight engineering governance, such as design reviews, architecture decision records, reference implementations, and coding standards
• Mentor engineers through pairing, reviews, and technical coaching, raising the quality bar without slowing delivery
• Collaborate closely with product and design to ensure solutions are usable, coherent, and aligned with real-world workflows
• Drive a general AI evaluation framework to guide when and how AI should be leveraged within solutions, including practicality, risk, and value considerations
• Contribute to recruitment by helping define role needs, participating in interviews, and assessing technical fit

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on architecture ownership for shipped products
• Proven experience taking solutions from prototype or early stage builds to production, with clear engineering trade-offs and prioritization
• Strong system design skills across modern architectures, such as service-based systems, APIs, event-driven patterns, distributed systems, data design, and integration approaches
• Strong grounding in security and production engineering, including authentication and authorization, secrets management, threat awareness, operational readiness, and reliability practices
• Experienced in leveraging AI as part of product and solution development, including practical evaluation of approaches, constraints, and risks
• Comfort working across multiple technology stacks, selecting tools based on problem fit rather than preference
• Strong mentoring and technical communication skills, able to align engineers and stakeholders with clear, practical direction
• Bias for action, experimentation, and learning, with the discipline to turn validated ideas into robust deliverables
• Experience working in hybrid, cross-functional environments with product, design, and engineering stakeholders
